Florence

I just woke up from a much needed long nap because 3 hours ago I just got back to Milan as I spent a long weekend in Florence with my friends. I mentioned that before moving to Milan I had a list of all the places I wanted to visit whilst I was studying abroad. Well, Florence was one of them. My friends and I sent a long weekend in Florence, from Thursday to Sunday to be more precise. Baring in mind that I am a university student, we don’t tend to travel in style and spend ridiculous amount of money on transportation. What I’m trying to get at here is that if you’re worried about the price of transport here in Italy, the buses are amazing. We spent 16 euros on a return ticket to Florence from Milan. I must say I did feel a bit like a boss. Anyway, I’m pretty sure you don’t want to read my ramblings about transport here in Italy.

Florence, home to a long list of must-see monuments and galleries along this small riverside city. Constantly being overlooked by the every so beautiful Duomo. This Renaissance city is rich in history, the sandstone streets and the never ending Italian chaos.

One the first day on arriving to Florence, my friends and I, after grabbing a couple of pizzas and dropping our bags at the hostel, set off on our mission to find the Duomo. If you look on a map, Florence looks huge but actually, it’s pretty small and very walkable. The Duomo, locataed in the heart of Florence, surrounded by the chatter of the tourists with their selfie sticks. If you forget about all that, you could really imagine what Florence was like in the past. The Duomo was built back in 1296 with marble. It glitters in the sunlight with its inks, greens and whites and angels looking down on you. It’s just one of the prettiest cathedrals I have ever seen.

After wiping our drool from our mouths from all the gawking we did, me made our way down towards the river and watched the sun go down.

Florence really is a seductive small city. My friends and I spent the whole 4 days being blow away by the impressive architecture and the small passages hidden behind the marble, brightly coloured monuments.
